Charles Riley Maynard had already been making sweets for 16 years when he founded Maynard's Candy Company in 1896.  With roots as a small family company, he and his brother Tom manufactured the sweets in their kitchen while Tom's wife, Sarah Ann worked in the shop.

It wasn't until 1909 that the ever-popular Maynard's Wine Gums were first introduced by his son Charles Gordon Maynard. 

Since its humble beginnings, Maynard's has become one of the largest manufacturers of gummy candies in North America and a true Canadian favourite.
