L.B. Maple Treat Inc. has been in operation since 1980. Luc Bergeron started harvesting maple syrup in 1975 on a 52-acre farm located 150 km southeast of Quebec City. During the early years approximately 5,000 trees were tapped and buckets were used to collect the maple sap. On a daily basis during the harvest season (March & April) Luc and a small group of workers would gather the sap by horse and sleigh taking it back to the sugar shack. There the sap was processed in a wood fired evaporator and concentrated into maple syrup. It takes approximately 45 litres of sap to make one litre of maple syrup.
Over the years our product line has grown to include maple cream cookies, maple sugar candies, maple shortbread biscuits, buttermilk pancake mix, maple coffee, maple taffy and pure maple syrup in a variety of grades and packages.
Today our farm has expanded to 1,200 acres with over 100,000 trees tapped. This is the largest independently owned maple farm in the world.
